The European Union is preparing to launch an ambitious defense initiative for 2026, focusing on drone technology and air defense systems, according to documents reviewed by Bloomberg.

The proposal, which will be presented to member states next month, includes funding for joint procurement of military equipment and the development of new defense technologies to strengthen Europe's military capabilities.

EU officials say the plan is a response to growing security challenges across the continent and aims to reduce dependence on non-EU defense suppliers. The initiative would mark one of the bloc's most significant defense investments in recent years.
